Two errors in one short Mail on Sunday editorial

Two quick points about the Mail on Sunday editorial about immigration:

Firstly:

Just two weeks ago, Home Secretary Alan Johnson said he didn’t ‘lie awake at night’ worrying about immigration.

The Mail has been telling us repeatedly he said he did not lie awake at night about the population hitting 70 million, which is a bit different.

Second:

Ordinary people are losing sleep over precarious employment prospects, rising taxes and cuts to public services. They tell Labour’s foot soldiers that untrammelled immigration, and the huge strain it places on an already faltering economy, is their main area of concern.

Based on what evidence? The Mail was happy to selectively quote results from the Ipsos poll a few weeks ago, but ignored the very first question which asked: What would you say is the single most important issue facing Britain today?

7% said immigration.

54% said the economy.

Immigration = not 'main area of concern'.
